A lawsuit has been filed against Sheikh Hasina's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, for allegedly selling national identity card (NID) information. The case, registered at the Kafrul police station, also names former State Minister for Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak as a defendant. The complaint was filed by an individual named Enamul Haque on Tuesday night (October 8).
The officer-in-charge of Kafrul police station, Kazi Golam Mustafa, confirmed the details to the media on Wednesday (October 9). The case, filed under the Cyber Security Act, mentions Joy, Palak, and a total of 19 individuals, while an additional 15 to 20 unidentified individuals have also been implicated.
The FIR states that the defendants allowed DigiCon Global Services Limited to use NID data without ensuring national security and the protection of personal information. This data was sold to approximately 182 organizations both within the country and abroad, resulting in the embezzlement of nearly 20,000 crore takas. The unauthorized sharing of information has created a sense of insecurity among the public.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who previously served as an advisor on information technology to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently resides in the United States. After the government’s fall, Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5. Just nine days later, former Minister Palak was arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country. Police have detained him for questioning in connection with several cases.
