A fisherman was shot dead by the Myanmar Navy near Saint Martin's Island in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, while two others were injured.
Today, Thursday (October 10), Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury confirmed the information.
He stated that one fisherman died from the gunfire, while two others were injured. Additionally, the Myanmar Navy had detained 60 fishermen along with four trawlers but later released them.
The deceased fisherman was identified as Mohammad Osman (50). The identities of the injured fishermen remain unknown.
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of this year, clashes have been ongoing between rebels and the military in the Myanmar region bordering Bangladesh. Gunfire from the Myanmar border has led to several disruptions in all communications with Saint Martin's Island this year.
