The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) have arrested three senior police officers with the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The arrested individuals are Additional Deputy Commissioner (promoted as Supernumerary Deputy Commissioner) Shahen Shah, Jewel Rana, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Rofiqul Islam.
This information was confirmed by Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, Joint Commissioner of the North Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, on Friday, October 18.
The arrests were made following orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs. On Thursday, October 17, the Ministry issued an order for the arrest of four additional superintendents of police. Besides the three arrested, the list included Additional Superintendent of Police (promoted) Hasan Arafat, who has not yet been apprehended.
A DB team arrested Rofiqul Islam on Thursday night in connection with a case from 2013, where a truckload of sand was used to blockade the residence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gulshan. He was presented in court on Friday and has been remanded for four days for questioning.
Meanwhile, the court has granted a four-day remand for Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md. Jewel Rana, who was arrested in a case concerning the murder of a domestic worker named Liza at Ramna Model Police Station. The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Afnaan Sumir following a hearing on Friday.
