Hasanat Abdullah's Son Moyeen Arrested

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cousin and former Member of Parliament Abul Hasanat Abdullah's son, Serniabat Moyeenuddin Abdullah, has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB).

He was apprehended around 3:30 AM on October 25 from Gulshan-2 in the capital. There are several cases against him under the Explosive Substances Act and various sections of the Penal Code in Barishal.

This information was confirmed on Saturday morning (October 26) by the Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the DMPI's Media and Public Relations Department, Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

He stated that Moinuddin Abdullah, a member of the Sheikh family, was arrested in Gulshan-2.

Earlier, the bank accounts of seven members of Abul Hasanat Abdullah's family, including the former MP and nephew of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were frozen. Additionally, family members were instructed to suspend any bank accounts related to personal ownership or interests.

The frozen bank accounts belong to Hasanat Abdullah's deceased wife, Sahana Ara Abdullah, as well as his three sons—former FBCCI director Serniabat Moyeenuddin Abdullah, former mayor of Barishal City Serniabat Sadik Abdullah, and Serniabat Ashik Abdullah, along with Sadik Abdullah's spouse Lipi Abdullah and another family member, Firoza Sultana.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent directives to the country's banks and financial institutions regarding the freezing of these accounts.
