Former MP Golam Kibria Tipu Arrested In Dhaka

Golam Kibria Tipu, former Member of Parliament for the Barishal-3 constituency,  was detained by locals and handed over to the police on Thursday.

Tipu, general secretary of Dhaka metropolitan unit of Awami League’s voluntary wing Swechasebak League, was detained in the Bir Bagair area of Keraniganj, Dhaka, around 7:00 pm.

Dakshin Keraniganj police station’s Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam said locals caught him from Bir Baghoir area on Thursday night and handed him over to them, reports UNB.

Tipu is an accused in a case filed with Motijheel police station, the OC said. He was later handed over to the Motijheel police station.

Tipu was elected Member of Parliament from Barishal-3 constituency from Jatiya Party in the 2008 election.

Later, he joined the Awami League. He hails from Agarpur area under Barishal Sadar upazila.
