Complete Investigation Against Sheikh Hasina In One Month: ICT

The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) today ordered the completion of the investigation against former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in the July-August genocide case.

A three-member tribunal headed by International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar passed the order after the hearing of the genocide case on Monday (November 18).

Meanwhile, the trial of 13 people including 9 ministers arrested for their involvement in the July-August genocide and crimes against humanity began on Monday at the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT). The accused were taken to the court at around 10:50 am. Later, the hearing of the complaint against them started at around 11 am.

Earlier, the accused were brought before the tribunal from Keraniganj Central Jail in a prison van around 10 am. This is the first of the 46 people whose arrest warrants were issued and brought before the tribunal on charges of crimes against humanity.

14 people, including 10 former ministers, two advisers, a retired judge, and a former secretary of the Awami League government, were produced before the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) in the case of the genocide on Monday, however, 13 accused were brought to the tribunal from Keraniganj Central Prison.

Arrested accused are – former ministers Anisul Huq, Faruk Khan, Dr. Dipu Moni, Shajahan Khan, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s influential advisers Salman F Rahman, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, retired Appellate Division Judge Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and former home secretary Jahangir Alam.

However, Abdur Razzaque was not produced before the ICT tribunal due to his remand in another case. Apart from this, Shahjahan Khan was brought to the tribunal along with everyone, although he did not want to be brought at first because he was ill.

Earlier, on October 27, a three-member judicial panel headed by International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud, and Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury ordered their attendance in the tribunal.

On October 17, the judicial proceedings of the ICT Tribunal began with the issuance of arrest warrants against 46 people including Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity.
