A Dhaka court today sent Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, former lawmaker or Member of Parliament (MP) of Chunarughat-Madhabpur Constituency, to jail after completing a two-day remand in the case of an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in Habiganj’s Chunarughat.

Barrister Suman was sent to Habiganj District Jail from Chunarughat Police Station on Sunday (November 24) morning. From there, he will be sent again to Dhaka Central Jail, Habiganj Jail Authority said.

It is learned that Barrister Suman’s two-day remand was granted in the Habiganj court in view of the petition of SI Liton Roy of Chunarughat police station on November 21. He was taken to Chunarughat police station for questioning on Friday and Saturday night. Barrister Suman was directly sent to jail by order of Judicial Magistrate Kamrul Hasan on Sunday.

Chunarughat Police Station OC Mohammad Nazrul Islam said that the information obtained during the interrogation cannot be disclosed for the sake of investigation.

On July 16, a case was filed against 97 accused, including Barrister Suman, on charges of attacking the anti-discrimination student movement program at the Shaistaganj New Bridge intersection in Chunarughat Upazila.

Habiganj Jail Superintendent Mujibur Rahman said that Barrister Suman was brought to Habiganj on November 20 to hear the case. As there is a case in Dhaka, preparations are underway to send him to Dhaka Central Jail again.

Before this, law and order forces arrested Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman from Mirpur in the capital on October 22.
