Ex-SP Babul Akhtar Secured Bail In Wife Mitu Murder Case

The High Court (HC) today granted bail to former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar in the case of the much-discussed murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in Chattogram.

The HC bench of Justice Md. Atowar Rahman and Justice Ali Raza passed the order on Wednesday (November 27).

On March 13 last year, the court of Chattogram’s Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Jasim Uddin ordered the framing of charges against Babul Akhter and seven others.

The accused are – Babul Akhtar, Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, Shahjahan Mia, Kamrul Islam Shikder Mucha and Khairul Islam.

On the day of the charge sheet, Chattogram Metropolitan PP Md Abdur Rashid said that accused Babul Akhter killed his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu after planning for a long time. The plan was implemented when Babul Akhter was in Dhaka. Charges were framed against Babul Akhter under sections 302, 201, and 109.

The case documents state that on September 13 afternoon last year, the PBI submitted a 2,084-page charge sheet to the court accusing seven people including former police superintendent Babul Akhtar in the Mitu murder case. The court accepted the complaint on October 10.
