Three days after the brutal murder of Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, his family has filed a case against 46 individuals.

On the night of November 29, Saiful’s father, Jamal Uddin, registered the case at Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram, according to Md Abdul Karim, the officer-in-charge of the station.

The case names 31 individuals, with an additional 10 to 15 unnamed suspects. The named accused include Chandan, Aman Das, Shubho Kanti Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Bikash, Ramit, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Bishal Das, Omkar Das, Bishal, Rajkapur, Lala, Samir, Sohel Das, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Debi Charan, Deb, Joy, Durlav Das, and Rajib Bhattacharya, all of whom are residents of Bandil Road Sebak Colony, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Police Station.

In addition, Saiful’s elder brother, Khan-e Alam, filed another case regarding the assault and vandalism of lawyers at the Chattogram court premises on November 26. This case implicates 115 individuals, with 400 to 500 others unnamed.

The incident started on November 26, when the Chattogram court rejected the bail application of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote and former Iskcon Bangladesh leader, in a sedition case, and sent him to jail.

Following the hearing, when Chinmoy was being transported in a police prison van, a mob of his supporters blocked the roads, leading to a clash that lasted for about 2.5 hours. During this time, Saiful and other lawyers participated in a procession in protest and were heading towards Bandil Road. Armed individuals then chased them, and Saiful fell while trying to escape. He was violently beaten and hacked to death.

Saiful’s body was found in an alley near Kotwali’s Rangam Convention Hall around 3:30 pm and was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
