The Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, has directed the authorities to ensure the full security of judges working in the Supreme Court, subordinate civil and criminal courts, as well as their chambers, residences, and related facilities.
On Thursday, under the Chief Justice’s direction, the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, Dr. Aziz Ahmed, issued a notification regarding the matter. This was confirmed by the Supreme Court's public relations officer on Friday, November 29.
The notification states that the Chief Justice is deeply concerned about the recent unprecedented and undesirable incidents that have occurred within the premises of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, as well as the unwanted situations that have arisen in district courts across the country in recent times.
Previously, the Supreme Court had repeatedly instructed local law enforcement agencies to take necessary steps to ensure the overall security of every court or tribunal premises, judges' chambers, judges' residences, judges' vehicles, and all court-related personnel, including judges and staff.
The notification further emphasizes that the judiciary is one of the three main branches of the state. In order to maintain the rule of law, ensure justice, and uphold the image of the courts, the Chief Justice has directed all relevant authorities to immediately take all necessary measures to ensure the security of court premises, judges' chambers, judges' residences, and all associated personnel in every court or tribunal across the country.
The notification concludes by urging all concerned authorities to take immediate steps to ensure the security of all judges, judicial officers, and court-related personnel across the country.
