The "Electricity and Fuel Supply Acceleration (Special Provisions) Act, 2010" has been repealed. Following approval from the Advisory Council, the President issued an ordinance on Thursday, November 28, to cancel the law.

Earlier, on November 20, the Advisory Council gave its approval for the "Electricity and Fuel Supply Acceleration (Special Provisions) (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024." While the 2010 law has been repealed, any contracts made under that law will remain valid.

The law, introduced during the Awami League government, was criticized for alleged financial irregularities and corruption through various activities. After the fall of the Awami League government, the interim government suspended the law.

At the time of approving the ordinance, the Cabinet Division stated that Section 6 of the Electricity and Fuel Supply Acceleration Act, 2010, particularly regarding electricity production contracts, had created a negative perception about Bangladesh's power sector, both nationally and internationally, due to widespread corruption and mismanagement.

It is also worth mentioning that on November 14, the High Court declared Sections 6(2) and 9 of the 2010 law to be illegal.
