Chinmoy Das Bail Hearing Scheduled For Jan 2

The hearing for the bail application of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote, will be held on January 2. The court set this date as no lawyer appeared on his behalf.

On Tuesday (December 3), the bail hearing was scheduled at the Court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam in Chattogram. However, no lawyer represented Chinmoy Das in the hearing. After the initial hearing of the bail application, the judge set the next hearing for January 2, according to Mofizur Rahman, ADC (Prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

Earlier, on November 26, Chattogram’s Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam rejected the bail application in the sedition case and ordered Chinmoy Das to be sent to jail.

Following the court order, members of the Sanatani community staged protests around the prison van in the court premises. After two and a half hours, the police dispersed the protesters using sound grenades and took Chinmoy Das to jail.

The protesters damaged several motorcycles and vehicles parked on the court road. Subsequently, lawyers and court employees chased the protesters. During the chase, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was killed on Rangma Convention Hall Road.

After the bail was denied, Chinmoy Das's lawyers filed a revision petition and applied for bail again that same day, but no hearing took place.
