The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, has been urgently summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Tuesday, December 3, he was asked to appear at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 4 p.m.

This follows an incident on Monday, when a group of unruly individuals attacked the Bangladeshi Assistant High Commission in Agartala. Local media reports stated that during the attack, they also set fire to the national flag of Bangladesh. Such an incident has never occurred before in the India-Bangladesh diplomatic relationship.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh expressed strong concern over the attack on Monday. In a statement, the ministry accused the law enforcement agencies of not taking sufficient action to control the situation.

Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed regret over the incident. In a statement, it mentioned that security measures at the Bangladesh High Commission, Deputy High Commission, and Assistant High Commission in India have been strengthened.

According to a report by Indian news outlet NDTV, following the attack and vandalism at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, the Tripura government dismissed three police officers and transferred a senior police official on Tuesday. Additionally, seven individuals have been arrested by law enforcement in connection with the incident.
