SAD Movement Rejects President’s Invitation

The Students Against Discrimination (SAD) Movement has rejected the President’s invitation to attend a function at Bangabhaban on the occasion of the Great Victory Day.

Every year on Victory Day, dignitaries pay a courtesy call to the President. This year, many leaders of the SAD Movement were invited to the event, however, they have decided to decline, confirmed several coordinators.

Ibrahim Nirab, the central executive member and coordinator of the SAD Movement, wrote in a Facebook post at 2:30 pm on Monday with a picture of the President’s invitation card, “We want the resignation of President Chuppu, the fascist’s agent. He also has the fresh stain of our brothers on his hands. There is no question of going to Bangabhaban at his invitation. We rejected Chuppu’s invitation on Victory Day.”

On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, the Chief Advisor, Chief Justice, advisors in charge of various ministries, foreign diplomats and high-ranking government officials, leaders of various organizations, titled freedom fighters and other dignitaries are scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the President at this event at Bangabhaban.

Meanwhile, the SAD Movement has issued a statement regarding the President’s program at Bangabhaban on the occasion of the great Victory Day. 

A statement sent by Zahid Ahsan, who is in charge of the organization’s cell office, said that the SAD Movement rejects the invitation of President Shahabuddin Chuppu, who is associated with the fascist regime, to celebrate Victory Day at Bangabhaban on the Great Victory Day. As per the decision of the executive committee, no leaders or activists organizationally associated with the SAD Movement will attend the Great Victory Day celebration at Bangabhaban today. 

The SAD Movement considers celebrating a day of national pride like the Great Victory Day at the invitation of a president associated with fascism to be incompatible with the intention of a mass-uprising.
