Professor Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Health and Family Welfare, has stated that a list of martyrs from the July-August mass uprising will be prepared and sent to the next cabinet.
This information was shared in a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday, December 20.
Earlier, on Thursday, December 19, during a meeting on the medical treatment of students and public injured in the July-August 2024 mass uprising and the rehabilitation of the families of martyrs, Dr. Sayedur Rahman said the list of martyrs will be finalized and sent to the cabinet by Monday, December 23. However, he clarified that this list is not final, as the verification process is still ongoing, and additional information about martyrs will be included as it becomes available.
Khondkar Zahirul Islam, the leader of the special cell for the mass uprising, stated that they have received verified information about 859 martyrs from the Health Directorate’s Management Information System Department, but this is still not the final list.
Secretary of the Health Services Division, Md. Saidur Rahman, mentioned that a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Finance requesting an increase in the allocation for improving the quality of food for hospitalized injured patients. He expressed hope that the increased budget would result in visible improvements in food quality. He also added that hospital directors have been instructed to ensure that injured patients do not have to pay for their treatment or purchase anything out of their own pocket.
The meeting also discussed finalizing the lists of martyrs and injured individuals from the mass uprising, the rehabilitation of martyrs' families and injured persons, the distribution of responsibilities among relevant stakeholders, and various other matters.
Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Martyrs' Memorial Foundation, informed the meeting that so far, financial assistance has been provided to 525 martyr families and 1,410 injured individuals by the foundation.
The meeting was attended by Health Education Secretary Dr. Md. Sarwar Bari, Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Md. Mohauddin, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Secretary Israt Chowdhury, Director-General of the Health Directorate Professor Dr. Md. Abu Jafar, and Director-General of the Health Education Directorate Dr. Nazmul Hossain, among others.
