A robbery has been reported on a ship in the Meghna River in Chandpur. Five bodies have already been recovered from the ship, but the exact cause of their deaths is still unknown. Members of the Coast Guard and police are at the scene.
The bodies were discovered after 1:00 PM on Monday, December 23. Lt. Colonel Shams, Staff Officer (Dhaka Zone) of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, confirmed the information to the media.
The ship in question is named "MV Al-Bakhira," and it was anchored at the time of the incident, according to initial reports from locals. It is suspected that robbers attacked the ship.
SI Sheikh Abdur Sabur of the Chandpur Naval Police said that the incident occurred near the Harinaghat area along the Meghna River in Chandpur Sadar. He reported that the bodies found aboard the MV Al-Bakhira were slashed across the neck, and the authorities were alerted.
According to SI Sabur, the robbers allegedly attacked the ship with the intention of looting it. When they were confronted, they used sharp weapons to slit the throats of the crew members. All seven victims were part of the ship's staff. One of the victims is reported to be in a critical condition, with severe throat injuries. However, the exact details of the incident and the identities of the deceased are yet to be fully clarified.
