The government has formed a new committee to investigate the Secretariat fire incident, canceling the previously formed seven-member committee.
This was disclosed in a directive issued by the Cabinet Division yesterday evening (December 26).
The new eight-member committee is headed by Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Other members include Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md. Hamidur Rahman Khan, Professor Tanvir Manzur from the Department of Civil Engineering at BUET, Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Russel, Commandant of Dhaka Cantonment CMTD, Associate Professor Md. Yasir Arafat Khan from BUET's Department of Chemical Engineering, Associate Professor Yasir Arafat from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Earlier, at 3:30 PM yesterday, a seven-member committee headed by Mohammad Khaled Rahim, Additional Secretary (District and Field Administration) of the Cabinet Division, was announced. However, the committee was dissolved at 7:30 PM.
The newly formed committee has been instructed to submit its report within 10 working days. It is also expected to provide a preliminary investigation report by December 30.
