90 Bangladeshi Fishermen Arrives In Chattogram Today || Photo : Collected
90 Bangladeshi fishermen and sailors released from Indian jails have reached Patenga, Chattogram. The released fishermen and sailors reached Patenga on Tuesday morning.
At the same time, two fishing vessels named ‘FV Laila-2’ and ‘FV Meghna-5’ are returning to Bangladesh.
The mutual handover of 90 Bangladeshi fishermen/naval workers detained in India and 95 Indian fishermen detained in Bangladesh in the western international waters was completed on Sunday (January 5) afternoon.
The reciprocal repatriation of 90 Bangladeshi fishermen/crew detained in India and 95 Indian fishermen/crew detained in Bangladesh was completed on Sunday.
The process started at around 12 pm, near the western International Maritime Boundary Line - Bangladesh Coast Guard received 90 Bangladeshi fishermen/crew members and handed over 95 Indian fishermen/crew members to the Indian Coast Guard.
Simultaneously, the exchange of detained vessels was also completed. Two Bangladeshi fishing vessels, "FV Laila-2" and "FV Meghna-5" were returned to Bangladesh, while six Indian fishing boats were returned to India.
The handover process was successfully completed through Bangladesh Coast Guard in the presence of the representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Fisheries, and Border Guard Bangladesh, the government of Bangladesh said.
On December 9, the Indian Coast Guard seized 78 fishermen and sailors along with two trawlers while they were fishing in the sea off Bangladesh. The next day, the owners and the Department of Shipping confirmed that they had been seized along with the trawler from the sea near Hiron Point area in Khulna.
