Chinmoy Krishna Das Seeks Bail At High Court

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, has approached the High Court seeking bail in a case filed for insulting the national flag.

On Sunday (January 19), his lawyer submitted the bail petition to the relevant branch of the High Court. The petition is scheduled to be heard by a bench of Justice Atwar Rahman and Justice Mohammad Ali Reza on Monday (January 20).

Previously, on January 2, the bail petition of Chinmoy Das was rejected by the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Court.

On October 31 of last year, a sedition case was filed against the expelled ISKCON leader on charges of insulting the national flag. Eighteen others were also named as defendants in the case.

Chinmoy Das was arrested from Dhaka on November 25. When he filed a bail petition on November 26, it was rejected by the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate, who ordered him to be sent to jail.

Following the court's order, Chinmoy’s supporters staged a protest around the prison van in the court premises. After two and a half hours, the police dispersed the protesters using sound grenades and took Chinmoy to jail. During the clashes, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was stabbed to death.
