In the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, all Bangladeshi peacekeepers are safe, and continuous communication with them is being maintained, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday, authorities reported that the death toll from clashes between peacekeeping forces and M23 rebels in eastern Congo had reached 13. The casualties include nine South African soldiers, along with others from Malawi and Uruguay, deployed as part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional force or under the UN mission in Congo (MONUSCO).
South Africa’s National Defense Force stated that their soldiers were killed during an offensive by M23 rebels, who launched a full-scale attack on their troops in an effort to seize control of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province.
