The affiliation of seven government colleges with Dhaka University (DU) has been cancelled.
New students of these seven colleges will not be admitted in the 2024-25 session under DU. Existing students, however, will continue their studies under DU administration, according to a press release issued by the Public Relations Office of DU today (27 January).
The decisions were made during today's meeting between the DU VC Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan and the principals of the seven colleges.
The seven government colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government College, Government Bangla College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, and Government Titumir College.
During the meeting, a recommendation was made to manage the activities of the academic years starting from 2024-2025 through a special committee formed by the Ministry of Education on 29 December 29 2024.
The release said the special committee formed by the ministry will decide on the number of seats, admission fees, and other relevant issues starting from the academic year 2024-2025, as per the demands of the students.
It also said the DU administration will be responsible for ensuring that students currently enrolled in the university's academic programmes are not adversely affected in any way.
The meeting between Dhaka University (DU) authorities and principals of seven affiliated colleges started at around 12:30pm today.
