Dhaka International Trade Fair Concludes Today || Photo : Collected
The curtains are set to fall on the 29th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair as it concludes today, January 31, with a closing ceremony in the evening.
At 4 PM, Sheikh Bashir Uddin, the interim government’s trade advisor, will officially declare the fair closed. However, visitors can continue exploring the stalls until 10 PM. Despite last-minute appeals from sellers for a one-day extension due to growing crowds, the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has opted not to extend the event.
The fair was inaugurated on January 1 by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the interim government, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC) in Purbachal.
This year’s event hosted 362 pavilions and stalls, with 351 occupied by domestic companies. The remaining 11 stalls represented exhibitors from seven countries: India, Pakistan, Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
From 1995 to 2020, the Ministry of Commerce and the EPB jointly organized the fair in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, to promote and expand the local market. The event was cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed in 2022 at its new venue in Purbachal, adapting to post-pandemic conditions.
