The interim government has formed a seven-member National Consensus Commission with Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser, appointed as its chairman. Professor Dr Ali Riaz, the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, will act as the vice-chairman of the newly established commission.

A gazette notification related to this was issued on Wednesday (February 12) signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid.

The other members of the commission include Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Chairman of the Public Administration Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, Chairman of the Police Reform Commission; Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Chairman of the Electoral System Reform Commission; Chief Justice (retired) Emdadul Haque, Member of the Judiciary Reform Commission; and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.

The notification states that the commission will begin its work on February 15.

The commission has been tasked with reviewing and discussing the recommendations from commissions on the electoral system, police, judiciary, public administration, the constitution, and anti-corruption reforms. It will engage in dialogue with political parties and other stakeholders to form a national consensus ahead of the upcoming elections.

Additionally, it was mentioned that the government will determine the commission's office location, and its tenure will last six months from the date of commencement.

The office of the chief adviser will provide administrative support to the commission, the notification added.
