The rail connection between Dhaka and Mymensingh has been restored after the engine of a commuter train from Trishal caught fire on its way to Dewanganj.
Train services were restored one hour after the incident at 11am today (March 8), said Gafargaon railway outpost’s Sub-inspector Golam Kibria.
After passing Dhola Station in Trishal, the train's engine caught fire, emitting flames and thick smoke, he said.
Kibria said that the locomotive master and guard quickly stopped the train and extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher. The train's engine malfunctioned afterward.
Dewanganj-bound Tista Express was stuck at Gafargaon station, while the Dhaka-bound Brahmaputra Express was stranded at Aulianagar station.
Later, the engine from Brahmaputra Express was used to tow the train to the loop line at Aulianagar.
