DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat said, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) did not have any intelligence information about the banned organization Hizb ut Tahrir's 'March for Khilafat' program.

Speaking at a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Saturday, the commissioner addressed the issue in response to questions from journalists.

"You are aware that DMP does not have its own intelligence agency. Intelligence agencies are responsible for gathering advance information. The head of DB is sitting next to me. DB works on criminal intelligence or criminals. DB or we did not have any information about those who were there yesterday. These matters are handled by state intelligence agencies. Therefore, we did not have any intelligence information of our own about Hizb ut Tahrir."said Commissioner Sajjat.

He further added, “We operate based on intelligence provided by other state agencies. Following that process, we successfully dispersed their gathering yesterday (Friday) and arrested 19 individuals from Paltan. Additionally, four others were detained the previous day. Cases have been filed against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.”

On Friday, Hizb ut-Tahrir, a banned extremist organization, announced its "March for Khilafah" from the east gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque. However, police imposed restrictions on the program two days later. On Thursday night, law enforcement arrested three individuals in connection with the event.

On Friday, authorities set up a security perimeter around the Paltan area. Despite the restrictions, Hizb ut-Tahrir activists proceeded with their march, prompting police to respond with sound grenades and tear gas to disperse them. Several members and supporters of the organization were subsequently arrested.
