Private Security Personnel Getting Power To Arrest

Private security personnel employed in shopping malls and areas in the capital have been appointed as police support officers with the power to arrest.

They have been appointed as per the law of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Act, DMP Commissioner Sheikh M Sazzat Ali said at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday (March 8).

“Shopping centres will remain open till late at night ahead of Eid. I have the power to appoint auxiliary police forces under the Metropolitan Police Act in various shopping malls, shopping centres and residential areas surrounded by gates.”

Members of the auxiliary police forces will wear bands in their hands with Assistant Police Officer written on them, he said.

“They will get the protection that the police officer gets legally,” Sazzat added.
