Russia has called for an end to the plunder of Syria's oil resources and the withdrawal of all foreign troops from the country. Alexander Lavrentyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy for Syria, made the call.

"We hope that the troops that the United States and some other countries have deployed in northeastern Syria, and the troops that Turkey has deployed in northwestern Syria, will not last," he said in a speech in Moscow.

"Moscow hopes that these foreign troops will be withdrawn as soon as the situation in Syria returns to normal," he said. Russia's special envoy to Syria said, "I think the withdrawal of US troops from Syria could happen at any moment."

Referring to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, he said he hoped Washington would make the same decision on US troops deployed in Syria.

The Russian diplomat said the withdrawal of foreign troops would enhance Syria's sovereignty and geographical integrity and protect the country's natural resources from plunder. He described the plunder of Syria's natural resources as "completely unacceptable" and said the resources were due to the Syrian people and should be used in the interests of all ethnic groups in the country.

Lavrentyev called on US-backed armed groups operating in Syria to hold talks with the Damascus government, saying armed conflict would not serve anyone's interests but could turn the situation into Afghanistan.
