Infections and deaths due to Coronavirus are increasing day by day in the country. 225 people have
died in the last 24 hours. However, amid this situation, another dangerous disease
dengue is on rise in the capital.
At least 68 people have been hospitalized with dengue fever in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Sunday. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,207 dengue cases have been detected this year. 37 of them are residents outside Dhaka.
Of the 1,207 people infected this year, 835 were infected with dengue this month. In addition, 272 people were infected with dengue in June and 43 in May.
According to the Health Directorate, most of the patients admitted to the hospital have returned home after treatment. At present 326 dengue patients are admitted in different hospitals of Dhaka. And four people are admitted to the hospital outside Dhaka.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr Nazmul Islam, spokesperson and line director of the Health Directorate, expressed concern that the dengue situation in the country could worsen even amid the coronavirus outbreak.
"The Coronavirus situation in the country is deteriorating now," he said. If the dengue situation also deteriorates in this situation, it will be difficult for us to handle. And if those in charge of mosquito control across the country, including the capital, do not perform their duties properly from their place, the situation will continue to worsen.
Dr Nazmul Islam said this in the regular bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday afternoon.
He said the public should also be much more aware in preventing dengue. Everything including the flower tub on the roof, the drain around the house should be kept clean. The commode in the bathroom, the bucket should not have water in anything. Water should not be stored in any container in the house, especially if it is left for three days or more.
The line director said, ‘We know Aedes mosquitoes mainly bite during the day. So even if you sleep at any time of the day, you have to sleep with a mosquito net. Even then, if someone has a fever, they should be tested for dengue as well as Covid-19. '
Professor Dr Nazmul Islam said, ‘In case of taking treatment, one must take the medicine on the advice of a registered doctor. If necessary, take treatment by contacting the hotline or health window of the health department.’
