Lower Areas of 12 Districts Flooded, 1 Lakh People Waterlogged

The low-lying areas of different districts of the country have been inundated due to heavy rains in the upper reaches. The water levels of at least eight rivers in the country have already crossed the danger line. Floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas of 12 districts. The daily disaster situation report of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said that about one lakh people in these northern and central districts of the country have been inundated by the floods.

The government's Flood Forecasting and Warning Center says the flood situation in these districts will worsen in the next week. Many areas may be flooded and new areas also may be flooded.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has already sent cash and relief items to the flood-hit areas. Local government and private buildings have been instructed to become shelters for flood-affected people.

According to the disaster situation report, the low-lying areas of Rajbari and Bogra districts have been most inundated by the floods that have been raging for a week. Besides, floodwaters have inundated low-lying areas of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Manikganj, Faridpur, Shariatpur, and Chandpur. Water will enter more areas of these districts in the next week.

Meanwhile, all the river ports of the country have been asked to display warning number 1 for fear of rising water and strong winds. Out of 109 points of different rivers of the country, water is increasing in 53 rivers and water has started decreasing in 52 rivers.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, the water level has crossed 14 points at Padma, Jamuna, Brahmaputra, Atrai, Meghna, Dudhkumar and Dhaleshwari among the seven major rivers of the country.

In this regard, Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, Executive Engineer, Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, said that the rainfall in the Indian part of the upper reaches of Bangladesh has increased and the water is flowing towards the main rivers of Bangladesh. The flood situation is deteriorating.

Meteorologist at the Meteorological Department Omar Farooq said the monsoon was active over Bangladesh and moderate in the North Bay. As a result, the tendency of rain may increase in the next two days.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid said that due to the effect of monsoon winds, more rain is falling in India at this time. As a result of which the water level in the rivers of Bangladesh increased and flood situation occurred.
