Facebook to Set Up An Office in Dhaka

Several internet-based companies including Facebook, Amazon and Google have already completed the registration process with the National Board of Revenue paying the appropriate VAT. The scope of business of these companies is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. But these organizations do not have offices in Dhaka. Despite repeated urgings from the government, it did not work. However, this time the scenario has changed a bit.

According to the BTRC, the Facebook authorities is showing positive sign towards opening an office in Dhaka. The government has also responded positively.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission-BTRC Vice-Chairman Subrata Roy Maitra said, "We told Google and Facebook to set up an office in Bangladesh."

Technologists believe that the size of the internal market is large enough for the investment and office management of these global organizations. Advise them to formulate timely and favorable policies.

Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh-ISPAB General Secretary Imdadul Haque said, "Google and Facebook have their offices in the neighboring countries." If we follow their guidelines, they will also set up offices in our country. But it must be remembered that the security of the country must be upheld.

The BTRC said the talks were resolving legal issues between the government and Facebook authorities.

Note that about 50 million Facebook IDs are used from Bangladesh and about seven lakh eCommerce-related entrepreneurs use Facebook.
