Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia will be kept on hold this year, as it was last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the remarks while presenting proposed budget for 2021-22 in Parliament on Thursday.
However, information technology is being used to assure Hajj management, including the creation of an e-Hajj system to perform all Hajj functions in the coming years, he said.
“Upward extension and renovation of the Hajj Camp facility are moving quickly to accommodate all service providers,” he added. In the current fiscal year, the Imam and Muazzin Welfare Trust provided interest-free loans to 1,000 imams and financial help to 4,000 distressed imams.”
“Welfare activities are carried out in a coordinated manner for the people of different religions through Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian Welfare Trusts to ensure communal harmony and peaceful social order,” he added.
Since the trust's establishment, 747 churches, cemeteries, places of worship, and religious organizations have received a donation of Tk. 3.66 crore from the endowment fund's income, he further said.
