In
the just-concluded 2020-21 fiscal year, 11,859 taxpayers have whitened 20,600
crore black money. Of this, about 17 thousand crore has been whitened in cash.
About seven thousand taxpayers have whitened this huge amount of money kept in
banks or cash.
Officials
of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said that whitening of black money has
crossed all past records since the country became independent in 1971. After
the tenure of the former caretaker government, most people took the opportunity
to clean black money in the outgoing fiscal year.
The
average black money whitening tax has collected a total revenue of Tk 2,000
crore at 10 per cent. According to the NBR, the whitened money has been
invested in the stock market, cash, bank deposits, bonds, flats, land and other
sectors.
Cash,
bank deposits and other securities accounted for the largest amount of money whitened.
The next position is investment in flats, houses and land. Of these, 7,055
people have paid more than Tk 1,600 crore in cash by whitening cash, bonds and
bank deposits. They have cleaned Tk 16,800 crore under this opportunity.
However,
286 people have cleaned Tk 400 crore and invested in the capital market.
Another 1,645 people have invested Tk 1,970 crore in land. On the other hand,
2,873 people have bought flats, apartments or houses for Tk 1,440 crore.
