The maximum retail price of sugar has been fixed at Tk 74 per kg and the maximum retail price of packaged sugar has been fixed at Tk 75 per kg. This decision will take effect from tomorrow Friday.

The price was set on Thursday (September 9th) in consultation with the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and the Ministry of Commerce, taking into account the international market price of unrefined sugar and the production cost of local refining mills.

After the meeting, Additional Secretary (Import and Internal Trade) AHM Safiquzzaman told reporters about the pricing.

Recently, the price of sugar in the retail market has gone up to Tk 80. In this context, the government fixed the price of sugar for the first time.

On September 5, the Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association proposed to increase the price of open sugar to Tk 85 per kg and packaged sugar to Tk 98 per kg due to rising sugar prices in the international market.
