The garment industry has been facing significant disruption due to ongoing labor unrest over the past few days. Factory owners have warned that they will shut down their factories indefinitely starting tomorrow (Sunday) if the unrest persists.
A meeting was held at the BGMEA office in the capital on Saturday, involving factory owners, organization leaders, and advisers from the interim government. Following the meeting, BGMEA announced that factories would close from tomorrow if the situation does not improve.
The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has also endorsed BGMEA's decision.
The meeting included Interim Government Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Adviser Farida Akhtar, Labour and Employment Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, and various garment industry entrepreneurs.
