Thunderstorms Likely To Hit Dhaka, 7 Other Regions: BMD

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers along with gusty or squally wind over six regions of the country, including Dhaka.

“Thundershowers accompanied by temporary south or southwest-westerly gusty or squally wind with a speed of 45-60 kph are likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Jeshore, and Kushtia, the BMD said in an inland riverport warning valid till 6pm on Thursday (October 17).

The river ports in these areas have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number 1, the notification says.

The well-marked low over Southwest Bay and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and intensified into a depression over Southwest Bay and adjoining area. It is likely to move west-northwesterly and cross the north Tamil Nadu-South Andhra Pradesh coasts, the BMD said in a regular forecast commencing 9am today.

The day and night temperatures may fall slightly over the country, the BMD said.

“Rain or thundershower activity may decrease,” the BMD says in an outlook for the next five days.
