Uber Enlists 5,000 Vehicles Following BRTA Order

Uber today announced that it has enlisted more than 5,000 vehicles on its platform to provide drivers with reliable, easy and affordable transportation, along with the development of livelihood opportunities for its drivers.

The ride-sharing company's enlistment push follows an order released by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), which stipulated that ridesharing could only restart with enrolled cars, says Uber in a press release issued in this regard.

To order to conform with the Directive, Uber has been increasing consciousness within the driver population regarding applying for enrolment certificates and also promoting the application phase on the BRTA platform.

Uber resumed operations in Dhaka on June 22, after a lengthy shutdown in the country due to an epidemic of coronavirus with its cheap UberX service, and it was only this week that services has restarted across the Premier and Intercity groups.

Ratul Ghosh, Head of Bangladesh and East India, Uber, said, "As our cities start to open, we want to ensure safe and convenient transport to move Bangladesh forward and help our communities on the path to recovery."

Uber remains committed to work with authorities in order to facilitate the enlistment process for the drivers so that they can start earning a livelihood on the platform as soon as possible, he also said.

"We are confident that our ridesharing services are best placed to provide the highest standards of safety and hygiene for riders and drivers in the new normal," he added.
