Bangladesh's GDP Growth Rises To 6.12Pc

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has estimated the quarterly Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) for the third quarter of the last financial year (January-March 2024).

GDP growth rose to 6.12 per cent in the third quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal year, up from last year's same quarter's 2.3 per cent, according to the provisional data released by BSS on Tuesday.

Growth in the industrial sector, which accounts for around 33 per cent of the GDP, jumped to about 7.03 per cent in the January-March quarter of FY24 while it was 4.98 per cent during the same period a year prior.

Similarly, growth in the agriculture sector increased to 5.46 per cent from 1.88 per cent in a gap of a year.

According to BBS, the size of the GDP in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24 at current prices is 13,478 billion taka, which was 11,443 billion taka in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022-23.

On a point-to-point basis at constant prices, the growth in the third quarter of FY2023-24 was 6.12 per cent, which was 6.01 per cent and 3.78 per cent in the first and second quarters respectively.

In the financial year 2022-23, the growth in the 3rd quarter was 2.30 per cent which was 7.03 per cent and 7.08 per cent in the 1st and 2nd quarters
