Responsibility For Banking Sector Failure Goes To All: BB Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur has said that the failure in the banking sector cannot be attributed to a single group alone, as responsibility lies, to varying degrees, with everyone involved.

Speaking at an event marking the golden jubilee of the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) on Sunday, the Governor highlighted both the achievements and shortcomings of the sector.

Dr Mansur said that the banking sector has seen significant accomplishments, but it has also faced its fair share of failures. “No single group can be solely blamed for these failures; rather, the responsibility is shared by all involved parties to some extent.”

Expressing optimism about the sector’s future, the Governor said, “The banking sector will recover swiftly and continue to grow. However, ensuring the protection of depositors and investors will be critical to achieving sustainable development in this industry.”
