More than 353m Textbooks to Be Distributed on January 1

As many as 35, 31, 44,554 textbooks will be distributed among 4, 26, 19,865 primary and secondary levels students on January 1 throughout the country for the academic year 2020.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the textbooks distribution festival tomorrow. 

The textbooks festival of secondary level will be held at Adhar Chandra Government High School in Savar while another programme will also be held at the central playground on Dhaka University premises in the city marking the occasion. 

The government has printed these textbooks by maintaining proper standard for pre-primary, primary, secondary, ebtedayee and SSC level students and all students will get textbooks for free on the first day of the New Year, education ministry sources said.

“This (festival) is the success of our (government’s) sincere commitment to reach the books on the first day of the year,” a top official of the Education Ministry said.

He said Bangladesh has set a rare example in the world through the distribution of free textbooks among a large number of students on the first day of January.

Distribution of free textbooks started in 2010 at both primary and secondary levels in the country.
