Professor Farid
Uddin Ahmed has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University
of Science and Technology (SUST).
On Wednesday
(June 30), by a presidential decree, Md Nur-e-Alam, deputy secretary in the secondary and higher education department of the education ministry signed a
circular appointing him as vice-chancellor for a second term.
The second term
will be effective for four years from the date of joining after the first term
expires, the notification said. At that time, he will receive the same salary
and allowance as the current Vice-Chancellor and will enjoy other benefits
related to the post as per rules.
As the Chief
Executive Official of the University, he will be on the University campus full
time. The President and the Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time
if necessary.
On August 21,
2016, Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed of the Department of Economics, Dhaka
University (DU) joined as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of
Science and Technology (SUST). His first term will end on August 20. During his
teaching career at DU, he was the President of the Teachers 'Association four
times, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences five times and the President
of the University Teachers' Federation twice.
