Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni
has said that the Covid-19 situation is being monitored. The National Technical
Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 recommended observing for a few more
days. In this situation, the government extended the ongoing closure of
schools and colleges across the country two more weeks, considering the current
COVID infection and death rate caused by the Omicron variant.
The education minister made the
remarks to the reporters over the phone on Wednesday (February 2).
She said that since the infection is now about 30 percent, it could be seen one more week after February 7. We are reviewing the situation regularly. If necessary, different decisions may be made.
Educational institutions have
been closed for two weeks from January 21 to control coronavirus infection. In-person
teaching will be closed till 6th February. Even before this, in-person teaching
was stopped for a long year and a half.
However, there are indications
that the current holiday may increase from one to two weeks. The government is
also planning to hold a vaccination week to speed up the coronavirus vaccination
of students.
According to the Ministry of
Education and the Directorate of Secondary & Higher Education (DSHE), the
government is monitoring the current Covid-19 situation. If the situation is
not normal, the closure of schools and colleges may increase step by step like
the previous year.
