Finally, the decision to relax the CGPA conditions of seven government colleges in the capital affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) has been implemented.
It is reported that the students who participated in the 2021 final examination of graduation second year and graduation third year of seven colleges and obtained a CGPA of 2.00 have been promoted to third and fourth year, respectively.
The matter was confirmed by the office of the Controller of Examinations at DU on Monday (September 4) afternoon. A notification has already been published requesting the principals of seven colleges to take action in this regard.
According to the notice signed by the Controller of Examinations, Bahalul Haque Chowdhury, for the information of the students concerned, it is being informed that the students who participated in the Honors Second Year 2021 and Honors Third Year 2021 examinations held in the affiliated government seven colleges and obtained CGPA 2.00 in the third and fourth years, respectively, have been promoted.
You (the Principal of Seven Colleges) are requested to take further action in this regard.
Earlier, a special meeting was held between DU and seven college administrations at DU's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on July 28 in the face of students' agitation demanding promotion in the next year by relaxing the CGPA conditions.
In the meeting, the seven colleges proposed a uniform CGPA for all years. Which will be similar to the CGPA of the Science Faculty at DU.
It is learned that the CGPA prescribed for various faculties at DU was applicable for promotion from one year to another in seven colleges. Accordingly, 2.00 points were required for promotion from the first year to the second year for social science departments under CGPA conditions. Apart from this, 2.25 points from the 2nd year to the 3rd year, 2.50 points from the 3rd year to the 4th year, and a final CGPA of 2.25 points were required to obtain an honors degree.
For science faculty, 2.00 points were required for promotion from the first year to the second year, 2.00 points from the second year to the third year, and 2.00 points from the third year to the fourth year. The final CGPA was 2.50 points for obtaining the honors degree.
For arts faculty, 2.00 points were required for promotion from the first year to the second year, 2.00 points from the second year to the third year, and 2.00 points from the third year to the fourth year, and the final CGPA was 2.00 for obtaining the honors degree.
Commerce faculty required 2.00 points for promotion from first year to second year, 2.25 points from second year to third year, 2.50 points from third year to fourth year, and a final CGPA of 2.50 points for obtaining an honors degree.
Although the students were objecting to the matter from the beginning.
