Although last year’s SSC and equivalent exams began in February as usual, the exams for the upcoming year are again being postponed. The education boards are planning to delay the SSC exams by around two months, scheduling them for April, following the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Due to the postponement of the SSC exams, the HSC and equivalent exams will also be delayed by about two months, with a tentative schedule for June.

According to sources at the Dhaka Education Board, officials have shared this information, although none were willing to speak on record.

Typically, SSC exams are held in early February, and HSC exams begin in early April. However, the school calendar has been disrupted since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, SSC and equivalent exams began on April 30, and since then, the schedule had started to normalize. Last year, the exams commenced on February 15, but they are set to be delayed once again for the coming year.

The education boards initially prepared for the SSC exams to be held in February, and schools have been conducting preparatory exams with that timeline in mind. Registration forms are set to open on December 1.

However, officials have not provided specific reasons for the postponement. An official from the Dhaka Education Board, speaking anonymously, mentioned that recent political instability has disrupted the academic schedule, preventing timely completion of the syllabus. Additionally, requests from students and parents have been considered, so to avoid issues with holding the exams in February, SSC exams are planned for after Eid-ul-Fitr, and HSC exams for after Eid-ul-Adha.

Sources also confirmed that next year’s SSC and equivalent exams will cover the full syllabus, with full marks and regular timing for all subjects. The HSC exams for 2025, however, will follow a shortened or revised syllabus similar to that of 2023 but will also be held with full marks for all subjects.

It is worth noting that, depending on the sighting of the moon, Eid-ul-Fitr next year may be observed on March 31, while Eid-ul-Adha is expected around June 7.
