'July Uprising Story To Be Included In 2025 Textbooks'

Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, has announced that the story of the July Uprising will be included in the 2025 textbooks.

He made this statement while addressing the inauguration of the ‘Shaheed Farhan Fayyaz Playing Field’ for people with physical disabilities, located west of the National Parliament Building, on Saturday (November 16) at 11:00 AM.

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan mentioned that the field has been named after Shaheed Farhan, while the Kustia district stadium has been named Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium, and the Tangail district stadium has been named after Shaheed Maruf, who was martyred by police gunfire. He added that more than 220 upazila stadiums will be named after martyrs from those respective areas as part of a policy decision.

He emphasized that the sacrifices made by martyrs can never truly be repaid, but the government is doing its best to honor them within its capacity.

He also shared that while the inclusion of the July Uprising story may not be very prominent in the 2025 textbooks due to time constraints, there will be a chapter dedicated to it, highlighting the memories of the martyrs. He assured that efforts are underway by the Ministry of Education to ensure the stories of the martyrs from the July Uprising are included in future textbooks for the next generation.

The event, presided over by Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Md. Rezaul Makhsud Jahedi, was also attended by Dr. Md. Anwar Ullah (FCMA), Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, and the parents of Shaheed Farhan Fayyaz, Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan and Mrs. Farhana Diba, who were honored as guests of honor.

In the event, Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, the father of Shaheed Farhan Fayyaz, expressed his hope that the sacrifices of the martyrs from the July 24 Uprising would not be forgotten. He called for their sacrifices to be properly highlighted in the 2025 textbooks.
