Students are excited to get new books on the first day of the English New Year. However, the government could not distribute new books to all students across the country at the same time. Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, education adviser to the interim government, has expressed regret over this.
He said, "We sincerely apologize to the students and parents for not being able to hand over new books to all students across the country on the first day of the new year."
He expressed his regret while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the online version of the textbook at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He also said that free books for students under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) will no longer be printed abroad from now on.
The education adviser said, the book printing business will be made open and disciplined. From now on, books will no longer be printed abroad. Printing is being done in the country. Arrangements will be made for high-quality printing, paper, and binding.
NTCB has informed that despite the demand for 41 crore books this year, 6 crore books have been printed. However, the organization has assured to print all the books by January.
Stating that the textbooks were revised after the fall of the government on August 5, the education adviser said, "The revisions have been made in such a way that party politics are kept neutral in the books."
