Inqilab Mancha has announced a Shahidi Rally on April 25 at Shahbagh in the capital, demanding a ban on the Awami League for the July massacre and justice for past incidents of violence. Until the rally, the organization plans to carry out a month-long signature campaign and leaflet distribution across the country.
The announcement was made on Saturday at 12:30 PM in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh by Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi. He stated, "We will conduct a one-month-long signature campaign and distribute leaflets in support of our two-point demand. Following that, on April 25 at 3 PM, we will hold a Shahidi Rally at Shahbagh. Families of the martyrs of Shapla, July, and Pilkhana massacres will be present at the rally."
Earlier, Inqilab Mancha activists had gathered at Shahbagh upon hearing about a leftist organizations' march demanding justice for nationwide killings, rape, and repression, as well as improvements in law and order. As they attempted to move towards Shaheed Minar, police intercepted them near the Dhaka University Central Mosque. The activists then sat down in protest at the location.
The police requested them to leave the road and said that the leftist organizations had postponed their mass procession program. Therefore, when they were requested to leave the road, the leaders and activists of the Inquilab Manch returned to Shahbagh and announced a new program.
Sharif Osman said, "We have been demonstrating at Shahbagh for four days with a five-point demand. In response, the government imposed Section 144, and police requested us to leave. We welcome the government's decision and are withdrawing for now. However, if Shahbagh activists announce any future programs, we will return to the streets."
He further claimed, "If Inqilab Mancha had not occupied Shahbagh, these groups would have created chaos. Our presence forced them to retreat from Shaheed Minar."
Sharif Osman said, “We have summarized the five demands into two points. They are: Awami League should be banned for genocide and the Shapla Chattar, Peelkhana and July massacres should be tried.”
