Ganga-Jamuna cultural fest begins today

The 8th edition of Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival is going to commence today at various venues in the capital.

The eight-day festival has been organised by Ganga-Jamuna Sangskritik Parishad with the support of cultural affairs ministry, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and India Bangladesh Foundation.

The festival is featuring plays and cultural performances by over 3,000 artistes from 121 organisations.

 A total of 36 theater troupes from Bangladesh and 4 theater troupes from India will stage 40 plays. Besides, 19 music troupes, 15 recitation troupes, 7 dance troupes, 3 mime troupes and others will perform at different venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangladesh Mahila Samity during the festival.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Seminar Room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday. Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Ghulam Quddus, Bangladesh Abritti Sangathan Samannay Parishad general secretary Ahkamullah and others were present at the press conference.

‘The objective of theGanga-Jamuna Sanskritik Utsab is to promote cultural exchange between Bangladesh and India. The festival brings together people from both countries, who can enjoy theatre shows, poems, songs, dances and more performed by the artistes of the two nations under the same roof,’ said Ghulam Quddus.

Former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Indian thespian Meghnad Bhattacharya will jointly inaugurate the festival, while state minister for cultural affairs KM Khalid will be present as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre director Nipa Chowdhury, Bangladesh Path Natak Parishad president Mannan Hira, Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation secretary general Kamal Bayezid will be present as special guests.

Each day the festival will feature a total of 11 performances comprising plays, dance recitals and more at venues like National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre, Studio Theatre Hall, National Art Gallery and Music and Dance Center of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity.
