Avatar: The Way of Water's New Trailer Reveals More Sequel's Plot

Avatar: The Way of Water is finally coming to cinemas next month (yes, really), and the new trailer has landed to reveal more of the sequel's plot.

Following the beautiful teaser released in May 2022, the new trailer was debuted on Good Morning America today (November 2), bringing us back into the world of Pandora 13 years after the original hit movie.

Director James Cameron's sequel catches viewers up with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they once again must fight to keep Pandora safe from the outside world.

Cameron will again aim to pioneer 3D technology with Avatar, with test filming shown at D23 Expo hinting at the most ambitious underwater sequences thus far.

Sigourney Weaver will return for Avatar: The Way of Water, in spite of her character Dr. Grace Augustine dying in the previous movie. Instead, Weaver lends her voice to Jake and Neytiri's adopted teenage daughter Kiri.

The Way of Water ups the ante in every conceivable way, including a runtime that dwarves its predecessor at a staggering three hours and ten minutes (credits included).

Cameron is already hard at work at more Avatar movies, with the supposedly-titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer arriving in 2024, a fourth film coming in 2026 and a fifth in 2028.

The filmmaker recently confirmed that he's already started filming some of Avatar 4, with producer Jon Landau telling Variety: "We’ve completed most of the first act of Avatar 4 and there were logistical reasons why we needed to do that.

"We’ve designed most of the whole movie for Avatar 4 but we haven’t actually filmed all of it – just the first act."
