Molestation Case: Pori Moni Contracts Fever, Did Not Appear to Testify

The testimony in the case filed against three people, including businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi for molesting Pori Moni was not taken, as the actress did not go to the court to testify due to a “mild fever” and “family engagements”, her lawyer said.

The day was fixed to take testimony in the case in the court of Judge Shahina Haque Siddiqui of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 on Wednesday (September 13).

On that day, Pori Moni did not appear in court to testify; the court granted the time plea and set a new date for taking the testimony.

“Pori Moni was scheduled to appear in court today to testify. She suffered from a mild fever after returning home from the shooting. Besides, she could not attend the court due to family engagements. That’s why we file a time plea in court. The court granted the petition,” said Pori Moni’s lawyer Nilanjana Surovi Rifat, confirming the matter.

Noted that in view of the lawyer’s petition, the trial of this case was scheduled to be held in camera.

Earlier on 29 November 2022, Pori Moni appeared in court along with her husband, Razz. At that time, accused Omi and Shahidul appeared. However, Nasir Uddin appealed for time because he was ill. Pori Moni’s testimony began in the presence of the two accused. The court then recorded Pori Moni’s partial statement.

On April 19 last year, Nasir and Omi’s lawyer appealed for exemption from liability in this case. The plaintiff, on the other hand, opposed the petition. Besides, the state heard on behalf of the complaint. Then on May 18 last year, the court ordered the trial to begin by framing charges against the accused.

On 14 June 2021, Pori Moni filed a case with Savar police station in Dhaka, mentioning the names of Nasir Uddin and his friend Omi and making four unknown accused.

After the investigation, on 6 September 2021, Kamal Hossain, the investigating officer of the case filed a chargesheet against Nasir and three others in the court. The other two accused are Tuhin Siddiqui Omi and Shahidul Alam. Then on December 13 last year, Judge Hemayet Uddin of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 accepted the chargesheet in this case.

It is to be noted that on the night of 8 June 2021, Poir Moni went to the Dhaka Boat Club at Birulia near Dhaka. That night, Poir Moni accused businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and Tuhin Siddiqui Omi of attempted rape and murder. Later, on June 14, she filed a case against Nasir and Omi and four other unidentified people with Savar police station.
