Japanese animator, filmmaker, and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has been awarded this year's Ramon Magsaysay Award, often referred to as Asia's Nobel Prize.
The award's foundation made the announcement on Saturday.
Miyazaki, renowned for directing acclaimed films like "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke," has gained international recognition as a masterful storyteller and creator of Japanese animated films.
The foundation praised him for producing numerous anime films that address challenging themes, such as environmental protection and peace, in a way that is accessible to children, reports Japan Times.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, based in Manila, has also chosen three other individuals and one group as recipients for the 2024 awards.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Manila in November.
This prestigious award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to Asia. It was established to honor the legacy of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, renowned for his integrity.
